• Dentist density: public CMS NPPES provider-enumeration counts allocated to counties by land area and divided by ACS county population (dental provider records per 10,000 residents), converted to a national county percentile. NPPES enumeration is not licensure, credentialing, or verification that a dentist is practicing, so this is a density indicator, not a count of active clinicians.
• Unmet dental-care demand: HRSA Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas (2026-Q3), measured as the share of county residents living in shortage-area ZIP codes (US Census ACS population), converted to a national county percentile.
